FAQ

What are public performance rights and why do you charge for them?

A:

Producing a film like City of Trees takes an extraordinary amount of time and resources, not to mention an entire team of creative professionals working tirelessly to lend their craft, artistry and ethics to tell this story. Public performance rights are one of the few ways that our filmmaking team can earn back revenue to pay for the substantial costs that went into producing the film and the costs to maintain outreach efforts. Though we live in an era of constant sharing and posting of media, public performance rights are a way to ensure that the film is being screened and shared respectfully and with all proper permissions.

Are you offering City of Trees for home ownership?

A:

Not yet, but soon. Right now, the film is only available for purchase in our community screening kit and as an institutional copy for universities, public libraries and K-12 schools. We are actively talking with VOD + home video distributors about consumer-level distribution to make the film available on Blu-Ray, DVD and popular streaming services. We hope to have home video launched in 2017 and will share updates on the film’s website as we have more information.

Why is the out of town rate higher for filmmaker speaking fees?

A:

Out of town screenings naturally require the filmmakers to travel from their home in Washington, DC to the screening location. We have set these rates to take into account the travel time required to get to/from the location. We can be somewhat flexible on the out-of-town rates based on the location and circumstances of the event. Please contact us directly and we can talk specifically about the screening circumstances.

Do you offer any rate exceptions?

A:

In order to help repay the substantial costs that went into producing CITY OF TREES and also sustain our outreach and engagement efforts, we have to make every effort to protect the rates we have established. With that in mind, we want City of Trees to be as accessible as possible to broad and diverse audiences. Please do not hesitate to contact us with a request for a reduced rate and we will make every possible effort to accommodate your request.
