Kartemquin is a collaborative center for documentary media makers who seek to foster a more engaged and empowered society. In 2016 Kartemquin celebrates 50 years of sparking democracy through documentary. A revered resource within the film community on issues of fair use, ethics, story and civic discourse, Kartemquin is internationally recognized for crafting quality documentaries backed by audience and community engagement strategies, and for its innovative media arts community programs. The organization has won every major critical and journalistic prize, including multiple Emmy, Peabody, duPont-Columbia and Robert F. Kennedy journalism awards, Independent Spirit, IDA, PGA and DGA awards, and an Oscar nomination. Kartemquin is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization based in Chicago.

Magic Labs Media is a media production company owned and operated by CNN political contributor, attorney, environmental justice leader Van Jones. We collaborate with visionaries who capture the world in new ways. We grow great stories. And send them out to change the world. Hollywoodn’t. But we will.

In 2014, Meridian Hill Pictures led a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to help raise finishing funds to complete CITY OF TREES. In 30 days, 503 backers contributed a total of $58,262 to the project. Kickstarter funding helped to underwrite finishing costs in post-production.

Since 1999, the Baltimore-based Bancroft Foundation has helped support a variety of educational and environmental programs in the greater DC area. From 2011-2014, the Bancroft Foundation provided three grants that offered crucial support for the film's production and post-production costs.

Washington DC's All Souls Church Unitarian has a long history of working for social justice. All Souls members Earl and Meta Beckner endowed the Beckner Fund in 1973 to help the surrounding community become more cohesive, attractive, and forward-looking; foster human rights and dignity. The Beckner Fund provided a grant to help underwrite production and post-production costs.

OUTREACH PARTNERS:

The Corps Network leads and supports over 130 of America’s Service and Conservation Corps. Corps are comprehensive youth development programs that engage participants in service projects, job training and academic programming. Modern Corps are a direct descendant of the Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps, which mobilized about three million young men to improve the nation's public lands in exchange for food, shelter, education, and a $30-a-month stipend. The Corps Network’s efforts enable over 24,000 diverse young people, ages 16-25, to strengthen communities, improve the environment and transform their lives through service in Corps programs.
